Where to Purchase a Money Order

If you need to make a tuition payment and don’t have checks, you can purchase a money order from any of the following locations. Money orders are affordable, secure, and widely available:

1. U.S. Post Offices (USPS)

  • Why: Reliable, secure, and widely available.

  • Cost: About $1.65 for amounts up to $500 and $2.20 for amounts up to $1,000.

  • Payment Methods Accepted: Cash, debit card, or traveler’s checks.

  • Tip: Find your nearest USPS branch → https://tools.usps.com/find-location.htm

2. Walmart

  • Why: One of the cheapest and most convenient options.

  • Cost: Typically $1 or less per money order (varies by location).

  • Payment Methods Accepted: Cash or debit card only.

  • Where to Go: Customer Service Desk or MoneyCenter.

3. Banks & Credit Unions

  • Why: Safe and secure, especially if you already have an account.

  • Cost: Usually $0 to $5 depending on your bank and account type.

  • Payment Methods Accepted: Cash, debit card, or direct withdrawal.

  • Tip: Some banks only issue money orders to account holders.

4. Grocery Stores & Gas Stations

  • Examples: Homeland, Crest Foods, 7-Eleven, OnCue, QuikTrip, Love’s, CVS, Walgreens.

  • Cost: Usually $1 to $2 per money order.

  • Payment Methods Accepted: Cash or debit card.

  • Where to Go: Ask at the customer service counter or cashier desk.

5. Check-Cashing Stores & Money Transfer Locations

  • Examples: PLS Check Cashers, ACE Cash Express, Western Union, MoneyGram.

  • Cost: Typically $1 to $2.50, depending on the provider and amount.

  • Tip: Many PLS and ACE locations are open late evenings and weekends, making them convenient for students.
