Admission Requirements

1. Fill out an Application either online or in person.
2. Complete the Enrollment Agreement in person or electronically.
3. Minimum age: 18 Years.
4. High School Diploma, GED, or another Equivalency, or higher.
5. Current Government-issued Photo ID: e.g., driver’s license, passport, military card, green card, work authorization card, or tribal card.
6. Social Security Card or replacement letter from the Social Security Administration’s office.
7. Criminal Background Screening. (Offered at MedNoc for a cost of $35.00).
8. Tuberculin (TB) Skin Test (PPD Test). (Offered at MedNoc for a cost of $35.00).
9. Current BLS from the American Heart Association is required. (Offered at MedNoc for a cost of $60.00).
10. Drug Test. (Offered at MedNoc for a cost of $50.00).
11. During Flu Season, a Flu shot record may be required before attending clinical.
    ***NOTE: Some clinical sites may require additional requirements such as drug screens, immunization
    records, flu shots during flu season, or wearing a mask at the clinical site. The school will inform you if
    any of these items are required on the day of enrollment.

Training, Education, and Clinical Skills

Optometric Technician training and Ophthalmic Technician training emphasize clinical eye care training and real-world skills. Students learn visual acuity testing, tonometry training, autorefraction testing, visual field testing, OCT testing, fundus photography, retinal imaging training, slit lamp examination training, keratometry training, contact lens fitting assistance, eye pressure testing, pre-testing ophthalmology procedures, and patient intake and history for eye exams.

The curriculum includes ophthalmic diagnostic equipment training, optometry diagnostic testing, optical coherence tomography training, non-contact tonometer training, manual tonometry training, visual field analyzer training, fundus camera operation, auto-refractor use, keratometer operation, and ophthalmic imaging technology.

Specialty Eye Care & Advanced Procedures

Students receive exposure to optometry clinical support training and ophthalmology clinical assistant roles. Training includes eye surgery prep technician responsibilities, pre-op ophthalmic technician tasks, post-op eye care support, refractive surgery technician fundamentals, cataract surgery technician support, glaucoma testing technician skills, retina clinic technician workflows, and pediatric optometry technician care.

Graduates are prepared for advanced ophthalmic technician training, specialty eye care technician roles, ophthalmic imaging specialist positions, contact lens technician duties, retina imaging technician responsibilities, and ophthalmic surgical assistant support roles.

Optometric/Ophthalmic Technicians National Certification Examination

This ophthalmic certification program prepares students for Optometric Technician Certification and Ophthalmic Technician Certification pathways, including COA certification, COT certification, and credentials aligned with JCAHPO certification standards.

Students complete ophthalmic technician exam prep, COT exam preparation, COA exam study guide review, ophthalmic technician practice test activities, optometric technician competency exam readiness, clinical skills validation, ophthalmic assessments, and eye care technician certification testing preparation.

After completing Optometric/Ophthalmic Technicians training at MedNoc Training College, you must take the Certified Optometric/Ophthalmic Technicians), a National Certification Exam offered by American Allied Health (AAH). The exam is offered at MTC.

• All exams consist of 150 multiple-choice and true/false questions
• Exams are timed: 120 mins
• The test must be taken in one sitting
• The passing score is 75%
• There is no limit to how many times one may retake the exam. AAH provides the first retake at no additional cost; subsequent retakes will require a $30.00 retake fee.
